Putting a walk-on on scholarship is a gift to the player but, really, it’s a gift to his parents as well. No longer are tuition payments on their dime.

In fact, schools will often end a #ScholarshipAlert video with the player making the victorious call home to Mom and Dad.

Troy did that tradition one better.

The Trojans put Cameron Kaye on scholarship and had his mother, Kimberly, drive up from Naples, Fla., to present him with his papers.

Kaye is a redshirt sophomore who serves as the Trojans’ long snapper. He snapped on all of Troy’s extra points and field goals for free in 2017, and will do so now as a scholarship player.
