Illinois Wesleyan has long been a historic Division III program in the ultra-competitive CCIW, the league home to national powers like North Central and Wheaton.
Sources tell FootballScoop the opportunity to lead the Titans has lured a Division II head coach away from his longtime post.
Jared Williamson, who has spent the past fifteen seasons leading Roosevelt (D-II - IL), is set to be the new head coach at Illinois Wesleyan, sources share.
Williamson was hired in June of 2010 to start the program, known then as Robert Morris University, at the NAIA level.
A few years ago, the school transitioned to Roosevelt University, and this past fall they completed their first season as a Division II member, where they joined arguably the toughest conference in Division II football in the GLIAC - home of Ferris State and Grand Valley State, who annually rank among the top five in the country.
At the time of that transition, Williamson had collected enough NAIA wins to rank among the top 10 in wins amongst all active head coaches at that level.
Taking their roster to the Division II ranks proved difficult this fall, as Roosevelt finished 1-9.
We understand Williamson's appointment atop the Illinois Wesleyan program will become official today.
There, he takes over for the program's longtime iconic leader, Norm Eash, who spent 38 seasons steering the program into one of the top programs in small college football compiling a career record of 233-133-1.
