Source: Elizabeth City State has decided to make a head coaching change

Hilliard has spent 17 years as a part of the ECSU program, dating back to his time as a player.

Sources tell FootballScoop that ECSU, a Division II program in North Carolina, has decide to make a change at head coach.

Marcus Hilliard, a 2004 alumnus, will not return for a fourth season leading the team.

A former all conference player turned defensive coordinator, Hilliard was a part of some the best defenses in school history.

Unfortunately, that didn't translate to as many wins as the administration would have liked during Hilliard's time leading his alma mater.

Following a 2-8 campaign in his debut season, Hilliard and the Vikings showed improvement in year two under his leadership.

This fall, after starting a promising 2-1, the Vikings lost six straight before winning their season finale against Bluefield State (D-II - WV) to finish their year 3-7.

Before being tabbed to lead the program,, Hilliard spent a total of 14 seasons at ECSU between his time as a player, graduate assistant, position coach, and then defensive coordinator.

Defensive coordinator David Castillo, who is in his second season leading the defense, has been appointed interim head coach, source shares.
