Source: Jaguars expected to retain Heath Farwell in coordinator role (special teams coordinator)

Update >> About 24 hours after we broke the news, the Jaguars have formally announced a contract extension to retain Farwell.

Freshly minted Jaguars head coach Liam Coen has moved quickly to secure his first hire on his inauguaral staff in Jacksonville.

Sources tell FootballScoop that Heath Farwell is expected to be retained as special teams coordinator on Coen's staff.

Farwell's special teams units were widely considered one of the bright spots of this past season during a disappointing 4-13 campaign.

This past season marked his third season with the organization, and his eighth season total in the NFL.

A former NFL player with the Vikings and Seahawks, he got his start in coaching shortly after his final season as a player with the Seahawks in 2014 when he landed with Seattle as an assistant special teams coach.

He would go on to serve in the same capacity for the Panthers in 2018 before the Bills gave him his first opportunity as a special teams coordinator in 2019.

In 2022 he joined the Jaguars to coordinate their special teams, and now is set to be an integral part of Liam Coen's attempted rebbuild in Jacksonville.
