Update: The school has now announced the hire. In a rare move, Singletary will take over as head coach while current head coach Steve Mercer will remain on staff as assistant head coach and defensive coordinator.
"It's an honor for me to join the TCA family," Singletary said in a statement. "I welcome the opportunity to get to know the young men who are a part of the football team, as well as the faculty, staff and parents. I have a soft spot in my heart for young men, and it's my desire to help them develop into all that God created them to be through football and beyond."

Former San Francisco 49ers head coach and Hall of Fame linebacker Mike Singletary has accepted the head job at Trinity Christian School in Addison, Texas, a source told FootballScoop on Wednesday. Matt Stepp of Dave Campbell's Texas Football has also reported the same.
Singletary is one of the most decorated football players of all-time. He is a two-time winner of the Southwest Conference Player of the Year award, a two-time Davey O'Brien Award winner, and was a two-time All-American before leaving Baylor after his junior year. Singletary was the only junior selected to the All-SWC 1970s Team.
He later became a Pro Football Hall of Famer with the Chicago Bears. A lynchpin of the famed Super Bowl champion 1985 Chicago Bears, Singletary was named to the NFL's All-Decade Team for the 1980s, a 10-time First Team All-Pro and a two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
He jumped into coaching as the Baltimore Ravens' linebackers coach from 2003-04, working his way to become the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers from 2009-10. He was 18-22 with the Niners. He was best known for his fiery post-game press conferences.
After San Francisco, Singletary spent the 2011-13 seasons as the special assistant to the head coach and linebackers coach for the Minnesota Vikings and the 2016 campaign as a defensive assistant for the Los Angeles Rams. This will be his first coaching job outside the NFL.
TCA is located in a north Dallas suburb and competes in the largest classification of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS).
