Veteran SEC assistant Kirk Botkin is set to make his return to college football, sources share.

After stints coaching at Arkansas and South Carolina, Botkin is heading back to the FCS ranks.

Sources tell FootballScoop Botkin is set to join the staff at Murray State (FCS - KY).

From 2008-09 Botkin served as special teams coordinator and defensive ends coach for the Razorbacks, where he also played in the early 90's before a few stops in the NFL.

He would later go on to join Steve Spurrier's staff at South Carolina, where he coached the linebackers and Spurs from 2012-15. When his time with the Gamecocks ended, he landed as the defensive coordinator at FCS South Carolina State.

Since leaving the ranks of college football following the 2016 season, Botkins has been a high school defensive coordinator in Texas.

He's called defenses at Dekaney HS (TX) as well as Magnolia West (TX) the past several seasons.

Botkin joins a staff at Murray State looking to improve from a 1-11 finish to the 2024 season.
