Ole Miss will hire Jeff Koonz as its linebackers coach, a source told FootballScoop on Wednesday.

Ole Miss Spirit and the Denton Record-Chronicle first reported the news.

Ole Miss is remaking its defensive staff after Matt Luke’s first season as the Rebels’ full-time head coach. Mike MacIntyre has replaced Wesley McGriff as defensive coordinator, and former linebackers coach Jon Sumrall left for a similar post at Kentucky.

Koonz spent the past two seasons as co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at North Texas. He was a FootballScoop Linebackers Coach of the Year finalist in 2018; Mean Green linebacker E.J. Ejiya posted 121 tackles with 25 TFLs and nine sacks.
