Houston Baptist offensive coordinator Zach Kittley will join the Western Kentucky staff, sources told FootballScoop on Thursday.
Kittley has been HBU's offensive coordinator the past three seasons, helping the Huskies rank 12th in FCS in total offense and third in passing in 2019.
Houston Baptist quarterback Bailey Zappe threw for 1,833 yards and 15 touchdowns in four game this fall, good for 458 yards per game and 8.5 per attempt while hitting nearly 66 percent of his throws. That includes 480 yards and three touchdowns against North Texas, 567 and four against Texas Tech, and 406 and five against Louisiana Tech. The Huskies averaged 34 points in those games.
A Lubbock native who signed with Abilene Christian to play basketball out of high school, Kittley began his coaching career as a graduate assistant under Kliff Kingsbury at Texas Tech, working with Patrick Mahomes and Davis Webb.
In a corresponding move, sources told FootballScoop Houston Baptist plans to promote inside receivers coach Cedric Cormier to offensive coordinator and hire a quarterbacks coach to replace Kittley.
Western Kentucky concluded its season Sunday with a 37-19 defeat of Charlotte. The Hilltoppers went 5-6 this season.
