Sources: Arizona State targeting Marcus Arroyo for offensive coordinator (Oregon Ducks)

Longtime college and NFL assistant coach Marcus Arroyo has emerged as Kenny Dillingham's top choice to become Arizona State's offensive coordinator, sources told FootballScoop Friday.

The two sides were working Friday morning in an effort to finalize a contract for Arroyo to join Dillingham's program heading into its second year, sources told FootballScoop.

Most recently the head coach at UNLV for three seasons from 2020-22, Arroyo has also coordinated offenses at several notable programs -- including the University of Oregon.

Serving the Ducks for three years under coaches Willie Taggart and Mario Cristobal, Arroyo helped steer the high-flying offense to 28 wins including the program's 12-win 2019 season.

That campaign spring-boarded Arroyo into his first head coaching job and just preceded Dillingham's arrival in Eugene, Oregon, where Dillingham's work with the Ducks proved runway to his first-ever head coaching job back home at his alma mater, ASU.

A former San Jose State quarterback, Arroyo has directed the offenses at Wyoming, Southern Miss and, as noted, both Oregon and his alma mater. He also spent a year in the NFL with the Tampa Bay Bucs.

Dillingham and ASU are moving on from Beau Baldwin, who helped run the Sun Devils' offense during a 3-9 2023 campaign that was blindsided at its onset by the school's self-imposed postseason ban.

That move, which Dillingham said was a total surprise to him, helped, in part, force the resignation of former ASU athletics director Ray Anderson.
