Arkansas Tech finds next head coach (Wonder Boys)

After a methodical climb through the collegiate coaching ranks, Roy Thompson Jr. is set to become a head coach.

Sources tell FootballScoop that Thompson Jr. is in line to become the next head coach at Arkansas Tech.

The AT Wonder Boys are an NCAA Division II program.

For Thompson, it's a step up following a dozen years as an assistant coach at Ouachita Baptist, the last half-dozen of which he's spent as the program's defensive coordinator.

Arkansas Tech finished the 2024 season 5-6.

Thompson served the last nine seasons as defensive coordinator at Ouachita Baptist, building on an earlier three-year run that saw him spend time at his alma mater, Belhaven, and Mendocino in between the stretches.

Ouachita posted an 10-2 mark this past season, advancing into the NCAA Division II Playoffs before losing in overtime last weekend to Central Oklahoma.
