Sources: Charles Huff, Southern Miss nabbing defensive assistant with SEC experience

Dominique Bowman set to join Huff's inaugural Southern Miss coaching staff

Charles Huff's debut Southern Miss coaching staff is going to have a familiar feel on the defensive side of the ball.

Sources tell FootballScoop that Huff has hired Dominque Bowman to USM's staff as a defensive assistant coaching the Golden Eagles's secondary.

Bowman and Huff previously worked together in 2021 during Huff's first season atop the Marshall football program.

A former Memphis-area prep coach, Bowman has been on a fast track in college football with his previous AFCA 35-under-35 selection, as well as work in the SEC coaching in the secondary at Arkansas.

Most recently, Bowman logged the past two seasons on Stan Drayton's Temple staff.

As FootballScoop first reported, Southern Miss targeted Huff in recent weeks and finalized a multi-year deal to take over the program as Huff guided Marshall to its first-ever Sun Belt Conference championship.

The Herd notched postseason bowl berths in each of Huff's four seasons at the helm, defeated Notre Dame and Virginia Tech as well, and punctuated his run with last weekend's SBC title.
