Over the past several days, sources have shared with FootballScoop that former FAU offensive coordinator / quarterbacks coach Charlie Weis Jr. is a strong candidate to join Jeff Scott' staff at USF.
Weis Jr., the son of former Notre Dame and Kansas head coach Charlie Weis, has worked at a total of three Power Five programs, including Kansas, Alabama, and Florida, and has also spent time on staffs with the Falcons and Patriots as well.
He's been coaching since 2011 when he was at Florida as an offensive quality control coach while his dad was the offensive coordinator in Gainesville for a season, and has also held analyst positions at Alabama and with the Falcons.
In 2018, having earned the trust of Lane Kiffin while the two worked together at Alabama, Weis landed his first on-the-field coaching job when Kiffin named him offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at FAU. His work with the offense and with a young quarterback helped lead the Owls to the C-USA title this past season.
Sources tell FootballScoop Jeff Scott is hoping to have contracts in place with a number of his assistants in the very near future.
