Sources: Dan Mullen to tab familiar face into key role at UNLV (Urban Meyer)

Dan Mullen has a new, record-setting contract to run UNLV football.

Now, Mullen also has one of his most important hires.

Several sources tell FootballScoop that Mullen is hiring Jon Clark into a general manager/chief of staff role within the Rebels football program.

If that move sounds familiar, it should.

Clark's previous work includes his time as chief lieutenant for Mullen at both Mississippi State and then Florida, Mullen's two head coaching stops prior to his work at ESPN and now career-revival in Las Vegas.

Clark has been Major Applewhite's chief of staff at South Alabama for each of the past two seasons. The Jaguars just wrapped their 2024 campaign with a win against Western Michigan last Saturday in the Salute To Veterans Bowl.

Clark's turn in college football stretches two decades and includes work with Mullen and Urban Meyer at both Utah and his alma mater, Bowling Green, among other career stops.

Mullen is receiving among the largest contracts ever awarded to an Group of Five coach, which hired Mullen after losing record-setting coach Barry Odom to Big Ten program Purdue.

The Rebels, who face Cal this month in the LA Bowl, are scheduled to open the Mullen Era in 2025 against Sam Houston State on the road; they open their home schedule in a prime tilt against new Big Ten program UCLA.
