Dean Hood will be the next head coach at Murray State, sources told FootballScoop on Tuesday.
Hood is currently the special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach at Kentucky.
Hood is best known in the Bluegrass State for his 8-year run as the head coach at Eastern Kentucky, where he went 55-38 with two Ohio Valley Conference championships and three trips to the FCS playoffs. He also spent five seasons as an assistant at EKU in the mid-90s.
In between EKU and joining Mark Stoops's staff in Lexington, Hood spent the 2016 campaign as the assistant head coach at Charlotte.
Murray State is an OVC bunk mate of Eastern Kentucky, who will also break in a new head coach in 2020. The Racers went 4-8 in 2019 with losses in their last five games. Mitch Stewart was not retained as Murray State's head coach on Nov. 23.
