Sources: Defensive staff coming together at South Alabama (Featured)

Kane Wommack's defensive staff is coming together at South Alabama.

Sources tell FootballScoop Wommack is set to hire Dwike Wilson as cornerbacks coach and Will Windham as linebackers coach. Additionally, we're told Wommack is close to securing a defensive coordinator. While that hire is not in place -- it is expected to be done in the coming days -- the person has SEC, regional and coordinating experience.

Wilson will join Wommack from Indiana, where he's currently IU's director of player personnel and high school relations. Wilson went to Indiana after coaching ten seasons in Mississippi Junior Colleges where he coordinated defenses and special teams and coached defensive backs. He previously worked as the recruiting coordinator at North Carolina A&T and Murray State; he coached quarterbacks at A&T and defensive backs at Murray State.

Windham is presently the safeties coach at Kent State, but he has a wealth of experience across that side of the ball. He also coached inside linebackers at Kent State and led the defensive line at Davidson in 2015. Windham also served in defensive quality control roles at Penn State under James Franklin and on Kirby Smart's first two staffs at Georgia.

Both Wilson and Windham have deep ties in Mississippi. Wilson worked at Jones, Hinds and Itawamba community colleges in Mississippi, and began his coaching career as a student assistant at Ole Miss. Windham previously coached high school football in Mississippi and started coaching as a GA under Dan Mullen at Mississippi State. Wilson graduated from Ole Miss while Windham graduated from Mississippi State.

Over the weekend and into next week we expect to hear more clarity about more of Wommack's staff.

As always, stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest.
