Sources: Dodge City Community College finds new head coach with deep Texas ties (Ryan Lusby)

After spending the 2023 season as the offensive coordinator at the University of Texas Permian Basin and having just wrapped his first decade in coaching, Ryan Lusby is set for his first head coaching opportunity, sources tell FootballScoop.

Lusby, a former Texas A&M-Commerce quarterback, is taking the reins at longtime junior college program Dodge City Community College.

In total, Lusby has five seasons of offensive coordinator experience, calling the plays and running the offense for four years at Arkansas-Monticello prior to his 2023 campaign at UTPB.

Lusby previously coached in the junior college ranks at Coffeyville, a Dodge City rival.

In his lone season at UTPB, Lusby helped the program uncork an 10-2 campaign that saw the team advance into the NCAA Playoffs. The UTPB offense had two games last season where it scored 85 or more points.

Dodge City will open the Lusby era Aug. 31 at home against Tyler Junior College, the first of consecutive home dates to start the season before an Sept. 14 clash at perennial junior college power Iowa Western.
