Sources: Dowell Loggains makes flurry of key moves (mark speir)

After waiting more than 15 years for his first-ever head coaching opportunity, Dowell Loggains is taking a measured approach of blending bold new staff hires and maintaining some stability.

To that end, multiple sources tell FootballScoop that Loggains is retaining a trio of key support staffers in the Appalachian State football program.

Per sources, Loggains is retaining head strength coach Matt Greenhalgh, Nolan Jones, the program's associate athletics director for football operations and Mark Speir.

The moves come just after Loggains boldly snared Zach Arnett for his defensive coordinator post.

Arnett, the former Mississippi State head coach, spent the past season as a senior defensive analyst at Ole Miss, where he learned from Pete Golding, the Rebels's well-regarded defensive coordinator, with an intention to blend Golding's staunch concepts with Arnett's own philosophy.

Speir is a beloved figure in AppState football history, having been a part of the program's national championship runs, the climb to FBS competition and also bringing FCS head coaching experience with him in his special advisor to the head coach role.

Loggains also tabbed Ryan Yurachek from South Carolina to serve as the Mountaineers tight ends coach, a move like the Arnett addition first reported by FootballScoop.
