Sources: North Carolina adding a former Power 4 coordinator to off-field staff (Eric Mele)

North Carolina is expected to bring Eric Mele back to the Tar Heel State as a special teams analyst, sources told FootballScoop on Monday.

Mele spent the past four seasons at Mississippi State, the final two as special teams coordinator.

He came to Starkville from Washington State, where he was alongside the late Mike Leach for all eight of his seasons in Pullman. Mele joined the Cougars in 2012 as an offensive quality control coach, then was promoted to special teams coordinator in 2014.

Prior to that, Mele spent 2007-11 as the special teams coordinator and running backs coach at Wingate, a Division II school in Wingate, N.C. The New Jersey native entered coaching in 2003 as the special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach at William Paterson University in his home state.

At UNC, Mele will work alongside special teams coordinator/running backs coach Larry Porter.

As always, stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest.
