Sources: Former Aggie, Patriot Ty Warren taking prominent role at Stephen F. Austin (Ty Warren)

Ty Warren, a local high school and college football standout, is expected to join Stephen F. Austin's staff as defensive line coach, sources told FootballScoop on Wednesday.

Warren will also be the Lumberjacks' assistant head coach and run game coordinator, sources said.

A Bryan, Texas, native, Warren played at Texas A&M, earning All-Big 12 honors in 2002 and becoming the 13th overall pick of the New England Patriots the following spring. There, he blossomed into a 2-time Super Bowl champion, a First Team All-Pro for the Patriots' 16-0 team in 2007, and a member of the club's All-Decade team.

Warren played through 2012 and entered coaching as a volunteer assistant for the Detroit Lions in 2019. He also had stints with the Tampa Bay Bucs and New Orleans Saints. Warren spent 2022 as the defensive line coach of the USFL's Houston Gamblers and most recently served as the co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach for the XFL's Orlando Guardians.

The Lumberjacks won a share of the WAC championship in 2022. SFA is 20-13 over its past three seasons.
