Longtime FBS special teams coach Frank Wilson, Jr., is expected to join Bobby Wilder's new staff at Tennessee Tech, sources confirmed to FootballScoop on Thursday. ESPN's Adam Rittenberg first reported the story.
Wilson will be the Golden Eagles' assistant head coach, special teams coordinator, and linebackers coach, sources said.
Wilson was Wilder's special teams coordinator at Old Dominion from 2016-19. He also coached cornerbacks for the Monarchs.
Wilson spent 2022 handling special teams at North Carolina and was the National Special Teams Analyst of the Year for 2021 at Houston. He helped the Cougars led the nation in punt return defense, punt return average, set an American Athletic Conference (AAC) record for return yards in a season, had an All-American Returner, and three AAC Special Teams Player of the Week Award winners during the 2020 campaign.
Wilson spent the 2023 campaign as the cornerbacks coach at Norfolk State. He has prior secondary experience at Northwestern State, Missouri Southern, and East Stroudsburg.
Tennessee Tech hired Wilder on Dec. 3 after posting a 4-7 season in 2023.
