Sources: Georgia Tech making major changes to defensive staff (Gasparilla Bowl)

As it prepares for a bowl game later this month and to move forward under Brent Key, Georgia Tech is making some significant changes to its defensive staff.

Multiple sources tell FootballScoop that the Yellow Jackets are parting ways with safeties coach Andrew Thacker and defensive backs coach Traveres Tillman.

Thacker, a native of Cartersville, Ga., just outside of metro Atlanta who played collegiate at Furman, had been on the Tech staff for the past five seasons. He arrived with former head coach Geoff Collins from Temple.

A Georgia Tech alum, Tillman had just completed his second season in charge of the Yellow Jackets' defensive backs.

He played several years in the NFL, coached briefly in the league and also had stops along his coaching career at both Georgia and Michigan State.

Georgia Tech finished a strong full-season debut campaign under Key at 6-6 and finish their campaign later this month against UCF in the Gasparilla Bowl.
