Sources: Jackson State adding former star Houston wideout, Norfolk State assistant (Vincent Marshall)

On the heels of an 7-4 campaign in his first season as heir apparent to Deion 'Coach Prime' Sanders at Jackson State, T.C. Taylor is making a key hire for his offensive staff, sources tell FootballScoop.

Taylor is bringing aboard Vincent Marshall as Jackson State's new wide receivers coach, sources with direct knowledge tell FootballScoop.

The arrival of Marshall corresponds with the quick departure of Jermaine Gales, sources told FootballScoop. Gales, sources have shared, has accepted the role of offensive coordinator at Alcorn State under new Braves coach Cedric Thomas.

A one-time walk-on wideout at the University of Houston, Marshall developed into a star player for the Cougars as he set program bowl receiving records, became a mult-time all-conference selection and had brief stints in both the NFL and CFL before he transitioned into coaching.

Since that time Marshall has worked in both personnel and on-field assistant coaching positions.

Most recently he served as Norfolk State's wideouts coach and passing game coordinator.

Aside from his work at Norfolk State, Marshall also has coached at Bowling Green, Syracuse and at HBCU and SWAC rival of Jackson State, Southern University.

Taylor guided Jackson State to a second-place finish in the SWAC East in his first season following Coach Prime's record-setting run at Jackson State.

The Tigers open their 2024 season Aug. 31 at Louisiana-Monroe. ULM is under the guidance of new coach Bryant Vincent.
