Charles Kelly is loading up quite the initial staff as he takes over the football program at Jacksonville State.
And multiple sources tell FootballScoop that Kelly is adding a pair of dynamic offensive assistants to the Gamecocks staff -- both previous experience coordinator offenses.
Lawrence Dawsey, the former star Florida State wideout who's coached at his alma mater, as well as in the Southeastern Conference at both LSU and Texas A&M, is set to become Jacksonville State's wide receivers coach.
A Dothan, Ala., native, Dawsey was the co-offensive coordinator under Jimbo Fisher at Florida State, has also coached at USF and spent time starting his coaching career at the prep level after spending 13 years as an NFL player.
Taylor Housewright is joining the Gamecocks staff as tight ends coach after spending the 2024 season on Clay Helton's Georgia Southern staff, where he worked hand-in-hand with Clint Trickett -- Jacksonville State's well-regarded new offensive coordinator.
But Housewright is best known for his work in super-charging the Montana State offense and helping fuel the Bobcats' run to dominance at the FCS level.
Also an Alabama native, Kelly was tabbed as Jacksonville State's replacement for Rich Rodriguez earlier this month. He's a staunch defensive-minded coach with Power Conference stops at Alabama, Auburn, Florida State and Tennessee in his past.
