Sources: Jacksonville State's Charles Kelly moving swiftly to find next offensive coordinator (Florida State)

Charles Kelly has been part of some of college football's biggest programs and a couple national championships along the way.

With that backdrop, he's moving with the swiftness as he begins to assemble his inaugural staff now that he's taking over at Jacksonville State in his native Alabama.

Sources tell FootballScoop that Kelly is targeting Clint Trickett, his family name synonymous with college football and with a reputation among the sport's really bright young offensive minds, as Jacksonville State's offensive coordinator.

A former offensive play-caller at Marshall who helped spur the Thunder Herd's monumental, 2022 upset-win at top-10 Notre Dame, Trickett is a former Florida State and West Virginia quarterback. He's coached at Florida Atlantic and spent this past season as passing game coordinator and tight ends coach for Clay Helton's Georgia Southern program.

His father, Rick, was long considered among the best offensive line coaches in the sport and his brother, Travis, most recently served as offensive coordinator for Coastal Carolina.

Kelly is a former Florida State assistant who's taking over after spending the past year on Hugh Freeze's Auburn staff and following Rich Rodriguez's departure from Jacksonville State to take back over the program at West Virginia.
