South Alabama special teams coordinator Jamael Lett is expected to join North Carolina's staff in an off-field special teams role, sources confirmed to FootballScoop on Wednesday. On3 first reported the news.
Lett joins the Tar Heels after two seasons at South Alabama. Prior to that, Lett spent three seasons coaching defensive backs at Samford and one doing the same at Akron.
At North Carolina, Lett is expected to work with special teams coordinator Larry Porter as the Tar Heels' chief special teams analyst.
He'll replace Frank Wilson, Jr., who is no longer with the staff. Wilson joined the Tar Heels last summer after coaching special teams at McNeese, Houston, and Old Dominion. Prior to his first special teams role, Wilson spent the 2015 season coaching defensive backs at Northwestern State.
