Sources: Jeff Choate makes immediate staff shake-up at Nevada

New Wolf Pack head coach parting with numerous assistant coaches

Jeff Choate is setting an immediate tone as he takes over the Nevada football program.

Introduced this week as the Wolf Pack's new head coach after a strong run as a top defensive assistant for Steve Sarkisian at Texas, Choate has quickly moved to rework his inaugural Nevada staff.

Sources tell FootballScoop today that Choate is moving on from at least seven different assistant coaches, including assistant head coach and running backs coach Vai Taua, offensive coordinator Derek Sage and co-defensive coordinators Mike Bethea and Kwame Agyeman.

Additionally, special teams coordinator Peyton Yanagi has been released, as have passing game coordinator Angus McClure and cornerbacks coach Jalen Ortiiz.

Choate, a former highly success coach at Football Championship Subdivision powerhouse Montana State, was hired to replace the fired Ken Wilson.

Wilson was fired after the Wolf Pack posted back-to-back 2-10 seasons with Wilson at the helm in 2022-23.
