Jeff Lebby is navigating his first week as a head coach, on the job just a few days in Starkville, Miss., and he's making significant moves to shape his inaugural Mississippi State staff.
Sources tell FootballScoop that Lebby on Thursday dismissed Brett Dewhurst, Tony Hughes, Matt Brock, Eric Mele and and Darcel McBath.
Dewhurst had been with the Bulldogs' program initially as a senior analyst to then-defensive coordinator and fired head coach Zach Arnett, climbing last January from analyst to an on-field defensive assistant role.
Back at State for a second time, Hughes helmed the Bulldogs' running backs room for the past six seasons.
Brock had been in a senior defensive role, helping coordinate the State defense and also coaching linebackers.
McBath, who had coached at Washington State with the late Mike Leach, spent four seasons coaching the Bulldogs' cornerbacks.
Mele, considered by many to be one of the best special teams coordinators in the country, had also followed Mike Leach from Washington State.
Lebby was hired away from his post as Oklahoma's offensive coordinator to take over the Bulldogs in his first head coaching job earlier this week.
