Sources: Jon Sumrall, Tulane make several defensive hires, land GM (greg gasparato)

Jon Sumrall is continuing to assemble his first full staff at Tulane, and Sumrall is moving to make a flurry of key moves on the defensive side of the ball.

Sources tell FootballScoop that Sumrall is bringing Greg Gasparato to the Green Wave as the program's defensive coordinator. Gasparato just wrapped up his first season as Troy's defensive coordinator and served as the program's interim head coach once Sumrall departed for Tulane.

Additionally, Taylor Polk and Bam Hardmon are joining Sumrall in New Orleans after previously serving as defensive assistants on his Troy staff.

Polk was interim defensive coordinator for the program's bowl game against Duke and has been an inside linebackers coach; Hardmon coached Troy's outside linebackers.

Sumrall, sources said, has continued to take a very thorough, detailed approach as he has worked to assemble Tulane's future offensive staff.

But in a crucial off the field role, Sumrall is bringing with him Cole Heard to serve as Tulane's new general manager for the football program. Heard served in the same capacity at Troy, but he also garnered significant recruiting experience from his work on the staff at UCF.

Tulane is putting the bow on its 2023 season today, facing Virginia Tech in the Military Bowl.
