Butch Jones is moving with quickly to get a new strength and conditioning coach in place at Arkansas State, after suddenly losing veteran strength guru Brian Johnson to a similar post in Justin Wilcox's Cal Golden Bears program.
Sources tell FootballScoop on Wednesday night that Jones is hiring former Appalachian State strength and conditioning coach Jeff Jones to the top strength spot on Jones' Red Wolves staff.
Jeff Jones had been the director of athletic performance at Luther College prior to his arrival at Appalachian State for Eli Drinkwitz's one season overseeing the Mountaineers' program. Jones also has SEC experience at Auburn, and he previously served on Arkansas State's strength staff in 2012 when the Red Wolves won the SunBelt title.
A native of the Midwest, Jones earned his undergraduate degree at Central College (Pells, Iowa) and later his Master's of Education from Boise State. He also has been a certified speed and agility coach by the Certified Speed and Agility Coach by the National Sports Performance Association.
Jeff Jones most recently was the Director of Athletic Performance at Fairfield High School in Fairfield, Iowa.
Butch Jones now once again has a completed staff atop the Red Wolves program, after recently filling his offensive coordinator vacancy with the decision to rehire Keith Heckendorf to run the A-State offense.
