Josh Gattis, the 2021 Broyles Award winner as the nation's top assistant coach, is not expected to return to his post as offensive coordinator at Maryland, multiple sources tell FootballScoop.
It's been an up-and-down go for Gattis in his reunion with Maryland head coach Mike Locksley the past two seasons.
After a promising, 5-0 start to their 2023 season, the Terps are just 7-8 in their last 15 games; they slumped to an 4-8 campaign this year and were embarrassed by Penn State, 44-7, in last weekend's regular-season finale, after which Locksley and PSU coach James Franklin had a tense exchange.
Midway through the 2024 season, Locksley -- also a former highly regarded offensive coordinator -- took away play-calling duties from Gattis, before he later reinstated them to Gattis, a former Wake Forest player who's called offenses at Michigan, Miami and held high-level offensive posts at Alabama, Penn State and Vanderbilt.
Maryland hired Josh Gattis in early-March 2023, as FootballScoop first reported at the time, and he received a two-year deal that runs into early 2025.
Per sources, Gattis's deal is not being renewed and he will be left to seek employment elsewhere.
Maryland finished the 2024 season No. 68 nationally in total offense; the Terps were tied for 100th in scoring offense at just 23.7 points per game.
