Sources: Kansas to hire Jeff Grimes as offensive coordinator
Former Baylor offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes is expected to take the same position at Kansas, sources confirmed to FootballScoop on Thursday. Yahoo's Ross Dellenger first reported the news.
Grimes was chosen by his peers as the 2021 FootballScoop Offensive Coordinator of the Year after his spectacular debut on the Brazos. Baylor went from 123rd to 10th in rushing and from 125th to 33rd in yards per play, and in the process improved from 2-7 to 12-2 and Big 12/Sugar Bowl champions.
Baylor's production leveled off over the past two seasons, and so Dave Aranda transitioned from Grimes to former Texas State head coach Jake Spavital, but Aranda's scheme will be a good fit for what Lance Leipold wants to do at Kansas.
Kansas has improved from two wins, to six, to eight this season with an upcoming date with UNLV in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl, and that success earned Andy Kotelnicki the Penn State offensive coordinator job.
Kansas averages 211 yards per game and 5.51 yards per carry on the ground, and those numbers should remain consistent in the change from Kotelnicki to Grimes.
Grimes made his name as the offensive line coach, starting at Division III Hardin-Simmons before moving on to Boise State, Arizona State, BYU, Colorado, Auburn, Virginia Tech and LSU before earning the OC position at BYU in 2018.
