Sources: Kennesaw State finds new defensive coordinator

Owls hiring former Georgia Tech defensive play-caller

The Kennesaw State football program is making a major move to fill its defensive coordinator vacancy.

Sources tell FootballScoop that Nathan Burton is being tabbed to run the Owls' defense.

It's a significant acquisition for Kennesaw State and coach Brian Bohannon; Burton's been an Power 5 defensive coordinator -- he ran the stop-unit for Geoff Collins at Georgia Tech -- and had recently been added to Eli Drinkwitz's Missouri staff as a senior defensive analyst.

Burton also has professional experience from working with the USFL's New Orleans Breakers.

Prior to the USFL and Georgia Tech, where he coached safeties and served three season as the Yellow Jackets' co-defensive coordinator, Burton also logged experience at North Carolina State, Temple, Oklahoma State, UT-Martin and West Alabama.

Burton is a former Georgia Tech player.

The Owls are coming off a 5-6 2022 campaign and open the upcoming season Aug. 31 against NCAA Division II program Tusculum.
