Kerwin Bell is set to make two major hires to his new Western Carolina staff.
Sources told FootballScoop on Tuesday that Justin Hinds is expected to be WCU's defensive coordinator and Darius Eubanks is expected to join the staff in the secondary.
Hinds has been Central Michigan's defensive line coach since 2019. A former all-conference D-lineman at Rowan University, Hinds has worked under Bell at Valdosta State from 2016-17, coaching the defensive line and serving as the program's academic coordinator. Hinds has also coached D-lines at Lafayette and Wagner, and also worked GA stints working with defensive linemen at Mississippi State and Florida.
Western Carolina will mark Hinds's first defensive coordinator job.
In the secondary, Eubanks has spent the past three years coaching defensive backs at Samford. His first two years in Birmingham were spent coaching safeties, and in 2020 he broadened his responsibilities to oversee the entire defensive backfield.
Eubanks started 50 career games at Georgia Southern and spent four years with the Vikings, Browns, Cowboys and Buccaneers. He entered coaching as a graduate assistant at Arkansas in 2017.
Bell was hired as WCU's head coach last week. He replaced Mark Speir, who was not retained after a 1-8 spring season.
"I am excited and honored to be named the new head football coach at Western Carolina University," Bell said last week. "We are coming here to win championships on the field and help mentor the young men who are in our program. I am ready to get started building this into a championship program that the Catamount Nation can be proud of."
