Sources: Lance Guidry to be Miami defensive coordinator (Mario Cristobal)

Lance Guidry is expected to be the next defensive coordinator at Miami, sources confirmed to FootballScoop on Tuesday.

Guidry replaces Kevin Steele, who took the Alabama defensive coordinator job earlier this week.

Guidry comes to South Beach from Marshall via a detour in New Orleans. He accepted the defensive coordinator job at Tulane last month, but will now coordinate the Hurricanes' defense instead.

The 2022 Marshall defense that Guidry helmed was nothing short of fantastic. The Thundering Herd finished third in FBS in yards per play, sixth in scoring defense, third in pass efficiency defense, fourth in rushing defense, and second in stop rate.

Together with Chevis Jackson, Guidry was a finalist for the 2022 FootballScoop Defensive Backs Coach of the Year award. Opponents completed 51.5 percent of their passes for 6.2 yards per attempt, registering 12 touchdowns against 18 picks.

Guidry has previously coordinated defenses for Western Kentucky, McNeese, and Southeastern Louisiana, and spent 2016-18 as the head coach at McNeese.

Mario Cristobal is also in the process of replacing his offensive coordinator following his 5-7 debut season. Offensive coordinator Josh Gattis was let go last month.

As always, stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest.
