Brent Stockstill, who turned a dazzling prep football career at Siegel High School in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, into a record-setting run at the helm of the MTSU offense, is making another move in the world of coaching, sources tell FootballScoop.
Stockstill, son of former MTSU head coach Rick Stockstill and among the most decorated passers in TSSAA history as well as that of the Blue Raiders, has been hired onto Lane Kiffin's Ole Miss football staff as an offensive analyst.
It's an reunion of sorts for multiple coaches.
The younger Stockstill previously worked under both Kiffin and Charlie Weis Jr. five years ago at Florida Atlantic University, during Kiffin's early days of turning around the Owls program and also among the earliest days of Stockstill's coaching career.
Passing for more than 12,400 yards and 106 touchdowns, Stockstill exited his collegiate playing days as MTSU's record-holder in both categories -- among myriad others -- after he also helped Siegel under former coach Greg Wyant establish numerous high school marks en route to becoming an TSSAA Mr. Football Finalist and TSWA All-State honoree.
He's entering his fifth year as a collegiate coach, first working under Kiffin at FAU, adding a season at South Florida and then returning to his alma mater to work on staff under his father for the final three years of Rick Stockstill's nearly two-decade run at MTSU.
Ole Miss has experienced record success under Kiffin with back-to-back seasons of double-digit wins.
The Rebels open 2024 Aug. 31 against Clay Hendrix's Furman squad and actually host Stockstill's former program, MTSU, a week later and begin SEC play Sept. 28 at home against Kentucky.
