Rip Rowan's been a fixture coaching the Georgia Southern defensive line the past three seasons, but his time in Statesboro is coming to a close, FootballScoop has learned.
Multiple sources tell FootballScoop that Rowan is exiting the Georgia Southern program to join Pete Carroll's new Las Vegas Raiders coaching staff.
Rowan will be a defensive assistant and again is expected to specifically work along the defensive line, sources told FootballScoop.
While Rowan has mentored a handful of players who have gone on to the NFL, this will mark his first venture in the league as a coach.
An Austin Peay graduate, Rowan previously was on staff at the University of Washington for one three seasons after separate stints at Southern Miss and Florida Atlantic, respectively.
Late Wednesday night, Carroll and new offensive coordinator Chip Kelly lured Deland McCullough away from Notre Dame to become the Raiders new running backs coach.
McCullough is a former Super Bowl-winning assistant coach with the Kansas City Chiefs and also a five-time FootballScoop Running Backs Coach of the Year finalist.
