Louisville plans to promote Pete Thomas to be the Cardinals' new quarterbacks coach, sources told FootballScoop on Friday.
Thomas spent the past two seasons as a quality control coach at Louisville.
The promotion continues a fast rise for the 29-year-old, who finished his college career at Louisiana-Monroe in 2014 and, after a brief career in the Arena League, entered coaching in 2017.
After a year as Texas A&M-Kingsville's wide receivers coach, Thomas joined Scott Satterfield's staff as an analyst at Appalachian State and followed him to Louisville.
Thomas replaces Frank Ponce, who left to return to App State as offensive coordinator.
The Cardinals will return starter Malik Cunningham in 2021, who threw for 2,617 yards and 20 touchdowns on 64.1 percent passing this fall.
