Ricky Jackson owns plenty of college football experience at some iconic HBCU institutions.
Jackson now is making the jump to power-conference football -- and specifically into the Southeastern Conference.
Sources tell FootballScoop that Jackson is departing his post atop football operations and player personnel at storied HBCU program Southern in order to join Brian Kelly's LSU staff.
Specifically, sources share with FootballScoop that Jackson is going to become LSU's assistant director of football operations.
The cross-town move comes after Jackson's service at Southern in dual off-the-field roles handling the program's everyday operations as well as helping construct the roster.
A former starter at Grambling, helping his alma mater to an HBCU National Championship during his playing days, the Los Angeles native Jackson has previous college football staff experience on Doug Williams's Grambling staff as well as multiple seasons at Prairie View A&M.
LSU, entering its third season with Kelly at the helm, opens the 2024 campaign in 15 days -- Sunday, Sept. 1 -- against Lincoln Riley and USC inside Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, home of the NFL's Raiders.
LSU then plays its first home game a week later, opens SEC play Sept. 14 at South Carolina and hosts PAC-12-Turned-Big-Ten-Resident UCLA Sept. 21.
