Sources: Mario Cristobal, Miami elevating Woodiel, shuffling staff responsibilities (Shannon Dawson)

As Mario Cristobal continues to rebuild and reshape his Miami Hurricanes' staff going into Cristobal's second year back home at his alma mater, Cody Woodiel is poised for a career break-through opportunity.

Sources tell FootballScoop that Woodiel is being elevated to coach the Hurricanes' tight ends, while former tight ends coach Stephen Field will shift into a different role that taps into Field's skills on and off the field.

Cristobal and Miami have hired new offensive and defensive coordinators since it wrapped up a disappointing 5-7 campaign that saw the 'Canes lose three of their final four games. In addition to hiring Shannon Dawson to run the offense and Lance Guidry to become the defensive play-caller, Miami also has added Kevin Beard as its wideouts coach and former NFL All-Pro Jason Taylor was elevated from his analyst role into the program's defensive line coach.

For Woodiel, it's another step in a career that's included stops at the junior college level, work as an analyst at the University of Oregon and time at both Charlotte and Troy, among other positions.

After his playing career at Troy and the initial start to his career, Woodiel also was hired to coach the offensive line at Football Championship Subdivision program Murray State.

The Hurricanes return a number of key starters on both sides of the ball as they continue their rebuild under Cristobal.

Miami is scheduled to open its 2023 season at home Friday, Sept. 1, against Miami (Ohio) before hosting Texas A&M in a huge intersectional, non-conference clash the ensuing weekend.

The Canes' first Atlantic Coast Conference game is Oct. 7 against Georgia Tech, which is transitioning into the full-time Brent Key era after Key earned the post following his work last season as interim coach.
