Marshall is expected to hire Rod Smith as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, and Gunter Brewer as tight ends coach, sources told FootballScoop on Saturday.
Smith is a long-time Rich Rodriguez lieutenant who had the option to join Rodriguez in his return to Morgantown, but opted to join Tony Gibson's Marshall staff, where he'll have full autonomy over the offense.
Smith has previous offensive coordinator or co-offensive coordinator experience at South Florida, Indiana, Arizona, Illinois, and Jacksonville State, where he coached for the past three seasons.
Brewer is a four-decade veteran of the coaching profession, with a previous stint as Marshall's co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach from 1996-99. He spent 2022-23 as the wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator at Maryland, and 2024 as the director of high school relations at Virginia Tech.
Marshall named Gibson its 32nd head coach on Dec. 8.
