Brian Williams had been among Mike Locksley's initial hires when Locksley returned to the helm of the Maryland football program.
Now, after having Williams on staff since 2019 and as the Terps's defensive coordinator since 2022, Locksley is parting ways with Williams, who also had been in the mix for other jobs during this current 2024-25 coaching cycle.
Numerous sources Friday tell FootballScoop that Williams no longer is Maryland's defensive coordinator and that the Terps are in the market for a defensive leader.
Additionally, Maryland also still needs to fill a vacant linebacker coaching role following the departure of well-liked veteran Lance Thompson to join Bill Belichick's University of North Carolina staff.
As it dipped to 4-8 on 2024 and won just a single Big Ten Conference game, Maryland saw its defense plunge to No. 80 nationally in total defense and 105th nationally in scoring defense at more than 30 points per game allowed.
