As Matt Entz assembles his inaugural Fresno State staff, there's considerable interest in where Entz, a noted defensive mind, turns for his offensive staff.

He's on the verge of adding a major piece of that puzzle, according to sources.

Multiple sources tell FootballScoop that Brian Ferentz is expected to join Entz's Fresno State staff in a top offensive assistant role and also to coach the tight ends.

The son of longtime Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz and the Hawkeyes former offensive coordinator of seven years, Brian Ferentz is poised to make the move after spending the 2024 season as an offensive analyst on Mike Locksley's Maryland staff.

Additionally, Ferentz has coached tight ends, running backs and quarterbacks during his coaching career that also includes NFL experience from time on Bill Belichick's New England Patriots staffs.

Ferentz played on the offensive line at Iowa and then spent two seasons on NFL rosters with the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints.

Entz, the former title-winning North Dakota State coach, was a top defensive assistant for Lincoln Riley's USC Trojans before being hired away to take over the Fresno State program last month.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to open their 2025 season Aug. 23 at Kansas.
