Sources: Matt Johnson to join Sean Lewis' San Diego State staff

Johnson is set to reunite with Lewis

Matt Johnson is poised for a reunion with former boss Sean Lewis.

Multiple sources tell FootballScoop that Johnson, who served this season as Kent State's offensive coordinator, has accepted an offensive assistant coaching position on Lewis' inaugural San Diego State staff.

Lewis has a long track record with Johnson; he hired Johnson to work with him at both Syracuse and Kent State.

Johnson, who starred at Bowling Green as the Falcons quarterback, signed a free agent deal with the Cincinnati Bengals and played in the CFL before he transitioned to coaching.

First hired as a Kent State quality control coach, Johnson climbed the ranks to full-time, on-field assistant and eventually served as the running backs coach for the Golden Flashes.

Lewis was hired last week by SDSU after he spent the 2023 season as offensive coordinator for Deion Sanders at Colorado.
