Sources tell FootballScoop that Carson-Newman has decided to make a change at head coach.
The change comes as Mike Clowney wrapped up a 5-6 season this fall after leading the program the past four seasons.
Clowney spent nearly two decades with the Carson-Newman program. He also enjoyed a standout career as one of the school's best linebackers, and still holds the school record for tackles in a game (23).
He took over the head coaching role in 2020, following a 15-year run as a loyal assistant.
The Eagles played just one game during the COVID impacted 2020 season, and Clowney got his head coaching career off to a 1-0 start following an overtime victory over Virginia-Wise.
The 2021 season finished with a 1-9 overall record before they showed a ton of progress with a school-record 5-win improvement to 6-5 the 2022 season.
After a slight step back to under .500 this year, administration felt it was time for a change.
He leaves his alma mater with an overall record of 13-20.
