Sources: Nicholls running back finishes career, immediately becomes Nicholls running backs coach (Collin Guggenheim)

Collin Guggenheim will be Nicholls' new running backs coach, sources told FootballScoop on Friday.

Guggenheim will be anything but new to the Colonels running backs he'll coach, however, because as recently as Nov. 21, Guggenheim was a Colonels running back.

Across a 4-plus season, 46-game career, Guggenheim became one of the most accomplished players in program history. A two-time First Team All-Southland Conference honoree, Guggenheim was a consensus Freshman All-American and a Jerry Rice Award finalist in 2021. He returned to the All-Southland First Team in 2023 after leading the conference in rushing and rushing touchdowns.

Guggenehim finished his playing career three weeks ago, logging 18 carries for 53 yards in a 19-16 loss to Southeastern Louisiana.

All told, Guggenheim totaled 642 carries for 3,282 yards and 33 touchdowns, while catching 44 passes for 312 yards and a score. He also earned a spot on the Academic All-Southland team in 2022.

Guggenheim owns Nicholls' single-game rushing record against a conference opponent, and his 3,282 yards are the second-most in program history. Guggenheim undoubtedly would have set Nicholls' all-time record if not for the fact, for his first two seasons, he split time with all-time record-holder Julien Gums, who left school with 3,429 yards.

Prior to Nicholls, Guggenheim was a back-to-back MVP of the state championship game, and led powerhouse John Curtis to a 13-0 season and a Division I state championship in 2018.

Now, after playing running back for Nicholls for four seasons, Guggenheim will take all he's learned and immediately start coaching his former teammates.

As always, stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest.
