Nothing about Nate Garner's football career -- playing and now coaching -- has been a standard path.
Now, the former University of Arkansas standout and seven-year NFL veteran is poised to land his first head coaching opportunity.
Multiple sources tell FootballScoop that Garner is emerging as the top choice for NCAA Division II program North Greenville. Sources expect an agreement to be formalized no later than Monday.
Sources told FootballScoop late this week that the position was trending to Garner among a trio of top candidates that also included Greg Harris and Jireh Wilson.
Following his collegiate playing career, Garner logged seven pro seasons with the NFL's Miami Dolphins and New York Jets.
He then spent a year as a volunteer coach with the New Orleans Saints, helped coach the offensive line at his alma mater and did some work at the high school level in Florida.
He had just wrapped up his third season as the offensive line coach at fellow D-II program Limestone, also in South Carolina.
