There's a new assistant to Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni, and in the process, there's a new opening at a competitive Football Championship Subdivision program.
Sources tell FootballScoop that Tyler Yelk is leaving his post as safeties coach for the Idaho Vandals to accept the position as assistant to the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles.
Sirianni is entering his third year atop the Philly franchise, having guided the Eagles to a Super Bowl appearance last month against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Yelk has been a veteran collegiate coach of more than a decade following his playing career at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. Yelk earned a national championship as both a player and later as an assistant coach at his alma mater.
Additionally, Yelk boasts Football Bowls Subdivision experience at Temple and Northern Illinois, as well as work at South Dakota and Western Illinois along his career path.
The Vandals had a strong 2022 campaign, during which they posted seven wins and advanced to the FCS Playoffs.
They are scheduled to open their 2023 season Aug. 31 at Lamar before back-to-back road games against FBS foes Nevada and California. Idaho opens its home season in late September against FCS power and Big Sky rival Sacramento State.
