Sources: Indianapolis Colts to hire one of college football's top D-line coaches (charlie partridge)

Pitt defensive line coach Charlie Partridge is expected to take the same job with the Indianapolis Colts, sources told FootballScoop on Monday.

Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi announced Partridge's departure from the staff on Monday morning. Partridge joined the staff in 2017 after three seasons as the head coach at Florida Atlantic. He was also Pitt's assistant head coach.

Prior winners selected Partridge as the FootballScoop Defensive Line Coach of the Year in 2020 and '22, making him a rare 2-time winner in the 16-year history of the award.

Pitt harassed opposing passers on an annual basis unlike any team in college football under Partridge's direction. The Panthers ranked among the top five nationally in sacks each year from 2019-22, twice collecting more than 50 sacks on the season. Pitt also led the country in 2020 with 111 tackles for loss; the Panthers hit triple digits in that department three times under Partridge.

The Colts job will be the first NFL posting for the 50-year-old former Drake defensive lineman.
