Sources: Mississippi College to hire FBS assistant Mike Kershaw as head coach
Rice wide receivers coach Mike Kershaw is expected to be the next head coach at Mississippi College, sources told FootballScoop on Monday.
Kershaw is a former standout quarterback in the Gulf South Conference to took an unconventional path back to his old stomping grounds.
He led Delta State to a Gulf South championship as a quarterback in 1998, then served as an assistant at his alma mater from 2004-06. As DSU's quarterbacks coach, wide receivers coach, safeties coach and recruiting coordinator, Kershaw helped the Statesmen lead Division II in offense in 2004 and reach the D2 semifinals in '06.
Kershaw then left coaching in 2007, eventually opening his own office in Austin, Texas. He did not return to coaching until 2018, as an offensive assistant on his former Delta State colleague Mike Bloomgren's staff at Rice. Bloomgren promoted Kershaw to wide receivers coach in 2019, where he remained until now.
Kershaw is set to inherit a Mississippi College team that went 3-7 in 2023, closing with a 41-3 loss to Delta State on Nov. 11. John Bland announced his resignation after 10 seasons at the helm on Nov. 13.
