West Alabama is adding a bit more University of Alabama flavor to its staff.
The Scott Cochran, the well-known former strength and conditioning guru for Nick Saban's Alabama dynasty, is adding former Crimson Tide star Damion Square to his inaugural West Alabama staff.
Cochran, who also served multiple seasons for Kirby Smart as Georgia's special teams coordinator, is tabbing Square to serve as West Alabama's defensive line coach, per sources.
A Houston native who earned preseason All-SEC honors at Alabama and won three national championships with the Tide, Square spent part or all of nine seasons in the NFL with several franchises, most notably a six-year run with the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers.
Square initially signed with the Eagles and also spent time with the Bengals, Bears, Chiefs, Raiders and Saints.
West Alabama hired Cochran earlier this month after previous coach Brett Gilliland, who led the program to a nine-win campaign in 2024, transitioned full-time into the role of the school's athletics director.
The Tigers are an NCAA Division II program that competes in the Gulf South Conference. Their 2025 schedule has yet to be released.
